Spring 2008 Reading:

Instead of a book this quarter, WiSE will be reading a couple of articles instead of a book. The articles are by the "X-gals", a group of biologists who met in grad school and kept in touch as their careers developed.  The series of articles in the Chronicle of Higher Education came out of their correspondence. The article "Balance it Out" talks about obstacles and offers advice for balancing academics and personal life that is applicable for both undergrads and grads.  The "Too Few Choices" article questions what it means to be successful, and the reality of 'choice' when it comes to an academic career.
